User Benefits Of The Diesel Generator

Diesel generator is an integral part of the electricity supply system in the USA today. If you have been fortunate enough to grow up with the familiar sounds of a diesel generator chugging away in the background of your life, then you are going to be only too familiar with their little vagaries, and their big hearts. People on the land, particularly in remote areas have relied on the diesel engine generator for generations now. Sea-faring men and women have relied on marine diesel generators also for nearly as long. Wherever there are power needs there will be some kind of electric generator. It may be small and portable or it may be so big that it has to be transported by tractor trailer.

There is no substitute for quality, and this old adage suits a diesel generator well. Admittedly it is not best suited for all power tasks, but when one is looking for a heavy duty performer, partnered with reliability and low maintenance then it is hard if not impossible to find anything better than diesel generators. Once given a task the diesel engine seems to relish in its work, in fact the more you ask of it, the more efficient it works. The diesel power generator always wins out over gas engines, and providing you give it correct maintenance you will receive in return many thousands of trouble free running hours.

The major advantage of the diesel generator is in its design. They will regularly outlast gas engines ten-to-one and for many people this is the only recommendation they need to purchase one. For example, the average portable gas powered generator may run for around 1000 hours before it either needs to be replaced, or subjected to a complete overhaul. Many of the flashy models being sold through discount and hardware stores may not make it past 200 hours. Now compare this to a comparable sized portable diesel generator. You will be looking at an average run of around 20,000 hours before it requires any service beyond its routine maintenance. Larger units can easily run upwards of 50,000 hours before they need attention. For some people who don't use their portable generator all that often, they will never need to get their unit serviced.

Diesel generators do need essential, regular maintenance. To me, this is a very small price to pay. It is usual for a small generator to need to have its oil replaced maybe every 100 hours of running time, or whatever the individual manufacturer recommends. This is as easy as undoing a plug and allowing the oil to drain out, and then replenishing it. They also require their fuel, air and oil filters to be changed on a regular basis. But that's it! No carburettor, no spark plugs, no distributor or magneto to burn out, and no constant trips to the dealer on warranty and repair issues.

Yes, diesel generator costs a whole lot more, but at the end of the day you get engines that near enough run forever. Some people will argue that the diesel fuel produces more exhaust so it must be much worse for the environment. Wrong! A well-tuned diesel generator set will only produce visible fumes very briefly when under a severe load change. That bluish smoke that you see is in fact far less toxic than gasoline, and the latest diesel technology used by the leading manufacturers such as Kubota, Detroit, Cummins and even Honda, produces diesel generators that run "clean", therefore protecting our lungs and our environment.
