Diesel Engine Generator Is Almost Problems - Free!It has to be said, that I was one of the many people who found out the hard way that the diesel engine generator is just so much superior to its gasoline cousins. Originally we bought a gas engine generator but had continual little problems with it that necessitated many returns to the repair station. Finally it gave up completely and died just out of warranty, and even though we were highly annoyed, we bought another one but this time decided to get a little bigger one, thinking this perhaps was our problem. To cut a long story short, this one didn't make it past the warranty period, so instead of having it replaced again with a similar model, we decided we had better investigate generators a bit more thoroughly. As we soon discovered, the diesel engine generator was what we should have purchased right from the beginning. To all people who are in the process of purchasing a generator, our word of advice to you - don't be fooled by all the slick advertising and fancy looking generators which are sold at hardware and discount stores. They are not built to last, they are usually extremely overrated, and even though they may have attractive warranties, you will be spending a huge amount of time getting them repaired, and you just can't count on them. Whereas the diesel engine generator is built to last, whereas the others are designed for the home-handyman who only needs them for intermittent light-duty use. If you want some serious run-time or need to start machines with large start-up requirements, then purchasing anything except a diesel engine generator is going to more than likely bring you grief.
Most people seem to get caught up in the cost factor. Sure a diesel engine generator is going to cost a lot more, but when you consider that you are going to get around 10 times more life expectancy, the cost is simply worth it. Sure the diesel engine generator requires regular oil changes, but oil can be bought on special and stored until you need it. This fact is staggering - most diesel engine generators don't require servicing beyond their routine maintenance for at least 20,000 hours, and many will see twice that many hours before they need attention. Most gasoline units don't get past 1,000 hours before they need to be either replaced or sent in for a major overhaul, that is if they haven't self destructed in that time. The diesel engine generator is perfectly suited to our needs - we require a unit to act as a standby power supply during our tough winters when we are guaranteed to be without power for at least two or three periods of several days at a time. We also take our diesel engine generator away with us when we go camping up into the mountains. Initially we thought that noise would be a problem, but our new diesel engine generator was the quietest of all the gensets on our last camping trip, and there were at least six families boon docking at this particular campsite. Our advice is to not touch the little el-cheapo generators of around $450 (even with the great warranties). A smart purchase of a diesel engine generator is going to provide dependable, economical power for years. |
