Diesel generators are providing the solutions to folks who through no fault of their own are continually being faced with power outages caused by either Mother Nature's fury, or poor supply from the national grid. You really do need to spend some time on this decision. It is recommended that you list the wattage of all the appliances that you wish to run during these times, as well as any other extra start-up power that is required when motors such as refrigerators cut in, and then add 20% extra. You can then take this to your diesel generators expert who will be able to show you what is available that will work best for your situation. Diesel generators like to work, in fact they work best when they are carrying a load. Don't make the mistake of buying the biggest unit in the shop, when you really only need one half the size. This extra power is never going to be used, and it will not only be a waste of money, but it will not do the generator much good at all either. If chosen correctly, diesel generators last for years, without any major service requirements. They do however, require regular oil changes and this is essential to maintain them in good working order. Sure diesel generators come at a premium price, but you get what you pay for, and that is a dependable source of power. |
